Eagleson Veterinary Clinic's Ultrasound Studies: A Comprehensive Approach to Pet Healthcare

At Eagleson Veterinary Clinic, we prioritize delivering the highest quality care to your pets. Our commitment to excellence extends to using advanced diagnostic technology, such as ultrasound. This article will delve into the significance of ultrasound examinations and describe typical diagnostic scenarios.

The Role of Ultrasound in Veterinary Medicine

Veterinarians utilize ultrasound as a painless diagnostic tool to check your pet’s interior organs and tissues. Our skilled veterinary staff at Eagleson Veterinary Clinic uses this technology to evaluate your pet’s health. Allow us to assist you as you do an ultrasound at our facility.

Preparation of the Patient

Your pet will be comfortably situated on a padded surface, typically on its side or back. Sedation may be necessary to ensure your pet remains calm and motionless throughout the procedure. Since hair can interfere with ultrasonic waves, we will first shave the area of interest to obtain a clear image.

Application of the Ultrasound Gel

The region being inspected is covered with a water-based gel. The inside organs may be seen in fine detail and real-time thanks to the gel’s role as a conduit for the ultrasonic waves that go from the probe into the body and back.

Placement of the Ultrasound Probe

Our skilled veterinarian carefully applies the ultrasonic probe to the gel-coated region. Internal organs reflect high-frequency sound waves that are transmitted into the body. The returned sound waves are then shown on the ultrasound machine monitor in real-time.

Diagnosis and Image Interpretation

Our experienced veterinarian will meticulously analyze the images on the screen as they move the probe across the area under examination. These images allow them to detect any abnormalities or issues with the internal organs and tissues, such as tumours, fluid accumulation, or foreign objects. Additionally, the images can be stored for future analysis or reference.

Discussion of Results and Next Steps

After the ultrasound examination, our veterinarian will review the findings with you and suggest any required treatments or other diagnostic testing in light of the results.

Typical Diagnostic Scenarios

Ultrasound is invaluable in a variety of diagnostic scenarios. For instance, veterinarians can use it to:

  • Examine the anatomy and physiology of the heart (echocardiography)
  • Detect any abdominal fluid buildup
  • Identify liver and kidney conditions
  • Detect gastrointestinal obstructions
  • Analyze reproductive systems, including monitoring for pregnancy.

Ultrasound-guided Urine Collection

We occasionally use ultrasound technology to guide a sterile needle directly into the bladder when collecting urine for testing. This method ensures a pure and precise sample for further examination.

Ultrasound tests are essential at Eagleson Veterinary Clinic for identifying and managing various canine health issues. Because of our staff’s experience and commitment to providing great treatment, your pet is in skilled and safe hands.
