Meet Veterinary Technicians
Julia
Technician
Julia is a dedicated veterinary technician with a degree in Veterinary Medicine from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil (2010), a Master’s in Animal Reproduction (2013), and a Residency in Small Animal General Practice (2017). With 4 years of experience as a veterinary practitioner in Brazil, she now brings her expertise to Canada, where she has furthered her education by completing the AHAA Anesthesia Safety and Monitoring Guidelines Certificate in 2024.
Julia’s passion for veterinary medicine stems from her desire to improve the care of pets and provide valuable guidance to owners. Known for her compassion, she strives to make every patient’s experience comfortable and stress-free.
Outside of work, Julia enjoys spending quality time with her husband, two daughters, and her beloved dog, Frutti. She loves studying, practicing yoga, and hiking in nature, and camping with family and friends.
Julia’s gentle nature and unwavering commitment to quality care make her a valuable asset to our veterinary team.
Abdou
Technician
Abdou is a knowledgeable veterinary technician with deep affection and enthusiasm for all animals. Although he doesn’t presently own any pets, his childhood cat inspired his passion for the industry. Abdou likes painting, going on exciting treks and playing football alone. He is a crucial component of our team since his dedication to animal care shows in his job.
Alisa
Registered
Alisa, a dedicated animal lover and enthusiast of “The Lord of the Rings” series (evidenced by the naming of her pets Kili, Pippin, Theo, and Sam), joined the Eagleson Veterinary Clinic team as a receptionist from June to August 2022. She recently graduated from Northern College’s veterinary technician program in June 2023. In addition to her passion for animals and her budding career in veterinary care, Alisa enjoys a wide range of hobbies. Whether playing video games, shopping, watching movies and TV shows, horseback riding, or spending quality time with her 4-year-old niece, Nora, Alisa’s interests are as diverse and engaging as her approach to client care at the clinic. Her blend of professional experience and personal interests makes her a valued part of the Eagleson team.
Babak
Technician
Babak is a seasoned veterinary technician with a diverse background in small animal care. Graduating from the University of Veterinary Medicine in Budapest, Hungary, he honed his skills through internships and professional experience in Iran, Cambodia, and now Canada. Driven by a lifelong passion for animals, Babak’s journey in veterinary medicine began with his childhood love for pets. Outside of work, he enjoys reading, watching movies, and gaming. At home, Babak shares his life with two beloved cats, Tala and Noghreh, whom he rescued from the streets four years ago. With his expertise, dedication, and love for animals, Babak is a valued member of the Eagleson Veterinary Clinic team.
Bailey
Registered (On-call)
Bailey has been working in Veterinary Medicine since 2018 following a high school co-op placement at a general practice clinic. Bailey graduated from the Veterinary Technician program at Algonquin College in 2021 and completed the necessary steps to becoming an RVT that same year. While attending the Veterinary Technician program, she had the opportunity to become Fear Free Certified, which aligns with her goal of creating a more enjoyable visit for your pet. Bailey has always had a special interest in emergency medicine and patient care, so when the opportunity to work at Eagleson Veterinary Clinic came, she was happy to be welcomed to the team! Bailey shares her home with her cat Boo, and hound mix Bella. Outside of work, Bailey is kept busy with her many outdoor hobbies and can typically be found snowmobiling, skiing, hiking, or just exploring all of the fun things there are to do in the Ottawa Valley!
Barbara
Registered
Barbara is an integral part of our team, serving as one of our on-call Veterinary Technicians since October 2023. With a lifelong passion for helping animals, Barbara pursued her dreams by attending St. Clair College’s Veterinary Technician Program, where she graduated in 1995. Shortly after, she successfully passed her registration examination and began her career as a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT). Barbara dedicated seven years to working in general practice veterinary medicine before transitioning to a role at a pharmaceutical company, where she spent eighteen years. However, her love for veterinary medicine drew her back, and she returned to the field in 2020. At home, Barbara enjoys spending time with her daughter, along with her dog, six cats, and four horses. Her dedication to animal care extends beyond the clinic, enriching the lives of her furry and equine companions. With her wealth of experience and unwavering commitment to animal welfare, Barbara continues to make a significant impact on the well-being of our patients and their owners. We are grateful to have her as part of our team at Eagleson Veterinary Clinic.
Erika
Registered
Erika graduated from the vet tech program at Algonquin College in 2013 and has been dedicated to small animal medicine ever since. She is a Fear Free certified professional; and is passionate about anesthesia and canine behaviour, using positive reinforcement training to achieve the best outcomes. In her free time, Erika enjoys hiking and trying new activities with her beloved pet, Stark, who loves to sleep upside down with all four legs in the air. She also enjoys live music, travelling, and participating in trivia games.
Gwendilin
Technician
Gwendilin is an Elite level Fear Free Certified Professional with 20+ years of experience in veterinary medicine. In addition to her studies in Veterinary Technology, she is a qualified RedRover First Responder and has completed specialized training in disaster animal response, feline veterinary practices, plus animal Euthanasia. Gwendilin works closely with the entire veterinarian team at EVC, providing compassion plus support to clients and their pets. She is dedicated to fostering a fear-free environment and is interested in emergency medicine, surgery, plus critical nursing. Gwendilin is also an expert in C-sections and neonatal care. Outside work, she enjoys travelling, teaching owners of deaf and/or blind dogs, dock diving, and nose work, plus doing animal welfare outreach & education as the Founder of Birch Haven Rescue & Rehabilitation Services. Gwendilin and her family enjoy living country life!
Hannah
Registered
Hannah has been immersed in the veterinary field since 2020, having worked in both emergency and general practice settings before achieving the milestone of becoming a Registered Veterinary Technician in December 2023. Graduating from Algonquin College in 2022, she has honed her skills and expertise in animal care. Outside of her professional endeavours, Hannah finds joy in visiting coffee shops, playing video games, and embarking on road trips. Despite not having any furry friends of her own at the moment, she seeks to surround herself with pets, including her roommate’s cuddly cat and her pup-nephew Griffin, the Newfoundland. Hannah is dedicated to ensuring that every visit a pet makes to the clinic is as pleasant as possible. Her commitment extends to fostering positive experiences for both pets and their owners, leaving lasting memories that they can share with others seeking veterinary care.
Hawlinston
Technician
Hawlinston is a veterinarian originally from Brazil, where he earned his degree in 2003 from the Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro. After gaining extensive experience working alongside his father and brother at their family clinic, he moved to Canada in 2016. Now a Canadian citizen, Hawlinston is an ER Vet Technician and is in the process of completing his Canadian veterinary licensing.
Passionate about surgery, emergency care, and ultrasound, Hawlinston dedicates himself to providing exceptional care for animals. Outside of work, he enjoys playing guitar and bass, soccer, and relaxing with his family—his wife Kizzy and their two daughters, Rebecca and Rachel—at their cozy cabin. He also has a soft spot for traditional Brazilian BBQ.
Jessica S.

Jessica Séguin is a distinguished Veterinary Technician graduate from Collège Boréal, where her dedication to the Health Sciences program earned her the highest honour for academic excellence. Fluent in both French and English, Jessica’s expertise is not only confined to veterinary care. Her commitment to continuous learning has seen her gain multiple certifications, from animal CPR: Basic and Advanced Life Support to Royal Canin Level 1 Nutrition Advisor. Currently, Jessica is broadening her horizons at the University of Ottawa, pursuing a Bachelor’s in Health Sciences, with aspirations to delve deeper into the world of veterinary medicine. Her passion for animals is evident beyond the professional realm.
Growing up near farms, Jessica spent countless hours immersed in animal care, fostering a love that later steered her to volunteer at shelters and work alongside seasoned veterinarians. Beyond her academic and veterinary pursuits, Jessica champions the spirit of community, evidenced by her involvement with the University of Ottawa’s intramural volleyball team. When she isn’t in the clinic or on the court, she indulges in country line dancing, horseback riding, and tending to her hobby farm, teeming with diverse animals, from chickens and rabbits to goats and ducks. Her kitten, Loki, holds a special place among these myriad pets. Every facet of Jessica’s life showcases her unwavering dedication to animals and their welfare.
Kaitlyn

Kaitlyn is a dedicated and experienced veterinary professional who graduated from Algonquin College in 2020. With over four years of experience as a registered veterinary technician, Kaitlyn is well-versed in providing top-notch patient care and serves as a compassionate advocate for animals. Certified in CPR, Kaitlyn’s commitment to patient well-being shines through her expertise in handling high-risk cases, including traumatic injuries and surgical emergencies. At home, Kaitlyn shares her life with a delightful array of pets, including Lily and Roscoe, her beloved dogs, and Chicken and George, her cherished cats. Beyond her passion for animal care, she finds joy in gardening, exploring the outdoors, and indulging in crafting projects through her side venture, Kait’s Krafts. Since joining the team at EVC in March 2023, Kaitlyn’s dedication and proficiency have been recognized, leading to her promotion as the Critical Care Coordinator in April 2023. In this role, she continues to demonstrate her commitment to excellence, ensuring the highest standards of care for every patient under her watchful eye. With her compassionate nature and unwavering dedication, Kaitlyn embodies the essence of veterinary medicine, making a positive impact on the lives of both animals and their caregivers alike.
Katie Flans

Meet Katie, a multi-talented certified veterinary technician passionate about improving dogs’ lives and empowering owners to reduce the need for future doctor visits. Katie misses her Shih Tzu Maltese mix, Bruins, who lived for 16 years, even if she doesn’t now own any pets. She enjoys playing basketball, touch and flag football, softball, and other sports in her leisure time. Katie likes a variety of hobbies and crafts, such as painting and cross-stitching, in addition to athletics. She also enjoys making things with her hands, like Legos, and reading fantasy books. Katie is an invaluable veterinary team member thanks to her distinctive combination of interests and commitment to animal care.
Magean
Registered
Magean is a dedicated Veterinary Technician who recently graduated from Northern College in June 2023, following an Honours Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Ottawa. With a special interest in animal behaviour and ecology, she brings a holistic approach to her work. Her experience spans from volunteering at the SPCA in 2018 to working in a general practice vet clinic in 2020. Magean’s enthusiasm for emergency medicine was ignited during her placements at various emergency hospitals in Ottawa. Outside of her professional life, Magean is an avid video gamer, a skilled knitter, and a passionate baker. Her cat Miguelle, a constant shadow following her around the house, adds an extra layer of joy to her days.
Serafina
Registered
Serafina graduated from Algonquin College with a degree and obtained Fear Free Certification during her studies. She entered the veterinary field in early 2021 and completed her licensing exam in the summer of 2022. With a background in emergency medicine and orthopedics, she aims to obtain the ECC specialist license within the next couple of years. Serafina’s greatest strength in the clinic lies in her ability to manage stress and perform effectively under pressure. Serafina is a member of the Veterinary Elite Membership Program and brings a wealth of experience to her practice. Outside of work, she shares her life with Dakota, a hyperactive mix who has undergone TPLO surgeries on both legs.
Dakota keeps her on her toes with her playful antics. Serafina also cares for two mischievous cats named Einstein and Marbles, as well as her ball python, Xena. Her passion for veterinary medicine stems from a lifelong connection with animals. Raised in the countryside, she has always been surrounded by and cared for animals, often getting into trouble for bringing them indoors. Serafina and Dakota enjoy spending time outdoors, indulging in trail walks, hiking, paddle boarding, camping, and any outdoor adventure that comes their way.
Shannon
Registered
As a small-town country girl, Shannan grew up with a love of horses in her blood. Destined to pursue a career focused on horses, she dedicated two years after high school to studying Equine Massage Therapy and Rehabilitation. Despite her passion for horses, she took on a part-time role at a Small Animal Veterinary Emergency Hospital while simultaneously working on a Standardbred Race Horse Breeding Farm. What began as part-time employment soon transitioned into a full-time commitment, leading to a lengthy career in Veterinary Medicine spanning over 16 years, encompassing roles in Emergency, Day Practice, and Shelter Medicines. Shannan now joins us part-time here at Eagleson Veterinary Clinic. When she’s not working, you can find her riding her horse, spending time with family, or unwinding at home with her Bengal cat, Prewitt.
Shayla
Technician
Shayla found her passion working in the veterinary field at her high school co-op placement in 2014. She was hired on as staff immediately after and has been furthering her education to fuel her dreams ever since. She completed her Undergraduate Degree in Honours Biology at Trent University in 2021 and is currently in the Veterinary Technicians program at Algonquin College.
After graduating, Shayla plans to gain further experience and knowledge of the industry before applying to Veterinary schools and fulfilling her long-term dream of becoming a veterinarian. In the meantime, Shayla pursues every Continuing Education opportunity she can, ranging in topic from client communication, to ensuring safe anesthetic recovery, to her current endeavour of achieving her Elite status as a Fear Free certified vet-med professional. Shayla takes an especially important interest in end-of-life care, and providing the most compassionate environment possible when owners reach the difficult stage of saying goodbye to their best friends.
Shayla knew from a very young age that her future would include animals. She grew up rescuing and rehabilitating birds, snakes and frogs from her backyard. The path she was bound for was clear to all who knew her! Presently, the home she and her partner share is full of pets, with 2 cats she rescued as kittens, her senior boxer mix, Chase, and her senior Saint Bernard Great Pyrenees mix, Sam!
Sofia
Technician
At Eagleson Vet Clinic, Sofia is a passionate pet care provider who is committed and competent. She has a solid foundation in biology and chemistry from Moscow State Regional University and is pursuing her ambition of becoming a veterinarian. Sofia has worked as a Veterinary Assistant and Registered Veterinary Technician in Moscow, Russia, for three years. She provides a distinctive viewpoint to the group. Her cat, Simba, who loves exploring the outdoors and going on adventures with her, is a great friend for her outside of work. Sofia is a born traveller who has been to 19 different nations and is constantly looking for new locations to explore. Her interests include looking for good laughs, participating in Latin dances, and keeping a cheerful outlook, in addition to being productive by studying, reading, and acquiring new skills.
Sydney
Technician
Meet Sydney, a skilled Veterinary Technician at Eagleson Veterinary Clinic, who brings a wealth of experience and a passion for animal care to every shift. Originally from Hamilton, Ontario, Sydney made the move to Ottawa in October 2023. Sydney graduated from the Veterinary Technician program at Sheridan College in Brampton, Ontario in 2020. Her journey into veterinary medicine began after she discovered her true calling, following her decision to leave an undergraduate program that didn’t resonate with her. From the moment she embarked on her career in veterinary medicine, Sydney knew she had found her true passion and has been dedicated to its growth ever since.
Within the clinic, Sydney’s greatest strength lies in the positivity she exudes during every shift. She understands the importance of maintaining a positive attitude, especially when faced with challenging cases. Her uplifting spirit not only benefits her colleagues but also contributes to creating a supportive and nurturing environment for both staff and patients alike. Outside of work, Sydney enjoys staying active by playing competitive dodgeball, going to the gym, and indulging in video games on her PS4. She shares her home with two domestic long-haired cats named Raiden and Kemper, as well as her beloved Whoodle dog named Millie, who is pictured.
Dr. Zaid
Technician
Taylor recently graduated from the Veterinary Technician program at Algonquin College in June of 2023, initially starting at EVC as an assistant/receptionist. She has an infinite love for all animals and strives to make all visits to the vet as fear-free and comfortable as possible. Taylor has an 11-year-old beagle-lab mix named Sandy with a destined obsession for food. Taylor enjoys reading, going to concerts, and watching movies in her free time.
